Buffalo Bills practice squad tracker 2020: News, reports, rumors, more – syracuse.com

Roster cuts across the league were made on Saturday. No 53-man roster is truly finalized, however, as teams will put in waivers on recently released players, re-sign veterans who do not have to clear waivers or look to sign some veterans who were recently let go from other teams.

Players that go unclaimed in the waiver process will then turn their attention to finding a practice squad to join.

This year, there are more opportunities for players who clear waivers to find a spot on a practice squad. Teams will be able to carry 16 players on their practice squad. In the Buffalo Bills’ case that number could actually be 17 thanks to a possible roster exemption for Christian Wade. Six of the practice squad spots can be taken by veterans who have more than two accrued seasons. This is a new addition that will benefit teams.

Below you will find the latest news, reports and rumors as the team builds their 2020 practice squad.

Other candidates

LB Andre Smith: The Bills traded for Smith shortly before roster cuts sending a conditional pick to the Carolina Panthers. It’s expected that the Bills will get that 2023 pick back, but Brandon Beane may have been strategic in adding Smith to the roster when he did.

The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia did a great job explaining why Beane may have traded for Smith.

DT Tanzel Smart: Smart, signed in mid-August, was able to get consistent pressure on Josh Allen in a team scrimmage and performed well in other practices with the team. Smart tells NYUP he is willing to join Buffalo’s practice squad if he clears waivers.
