Marc-Andre Fleury sat alone at the podium inside the Hall of Fame room at Rogers Place on Sunday morning in Edmonton.

The news conference was held hours before the Golden Knights open the second round of the playoffs against Vancouver, but that game was the furthest thing from anyone’s mind. Fleury was there to address a tweet by his longtime agent, Allan Walsh, that ignited controversy Saturday afternoon.

The tweet showed a doctored image of Fleury in net, with a sword skewered through his back, dripping with blood. And on the blade read the name of Golden Knights coach Peter DeBoer. Walsh deleted the tweet minutes before the news conference at the request of Fleury.

The Golden Knights acquired Robin Lehner in February, and the two goaltenders were splitting time evenly until the playoffs began. Now Lehner has started six of the past eight games, and Fleury has clearly been pushed to a backup role.
