Gerard Pique quip to Luis Suarez overheard during Uruguayan stars Barcelona return – Mirror Online

Barcelona’s Gerard Pique and Ter Stegen were involved in a tense exchange with Atletico Madrid forward Luis Suarez during the 0-0 draw between the two sides at the Nou Camp on Saturday.

Neither team were able to find a crucial winner during the clash, and it means Real Madrid will go top of La Liga if they beat Sevilla on Sunday with just two weeks of the season remaining.

The match was the first time Suarez had returned to the Nou Camp since his move from Barca to Atletico last summer, and he certainly wasted no time in getting involved in the action as he set out to prove a point to his former side.

At one point in the first-half, the Uruguayan ran onto a long ball before falling dramatically under the challenge of Barca ‘keeper Ter Stegen in the box seeking a penalty after the German appeared to make a small amount of contact with his fist.

Ter Stegen rushed towards his old teammate as he lay stricken on the floor, angrily shouting “Luis!”

Pique then got involved, telling Suarez “come on, fatty, don’t mess with us.”

Suarez slowly rose to his feet clutching his head, asking Ter Stegen “did you make contact or not?”

And he replied “it was my hand. If it is my foot ok, but come on…”

Suarez’s future has been the subject of some debate recently, with some of the belief he could leave Atletico in the summer after just one season at the club.

And Liverpool legend John Barnes has backed him to make an emotional return to Anfield.

He told BonusCodeBets: “If they could get Luis on a free transfer that’d be ideal but it’ll come down to whether Luis says he wants to play every week or he’ll be happy to move across and be part of the squad.

“But, because of his age, I don’t think he could expect to be playing every week.”
